Cold Sassy Quilters |
|
|
Guild members swapped pieces
of "ugly" fabrics several months ago. The challenge was
to make beautiful quilts out of the "ugly fabrics." The
only guide line was that a recognizable piece of each fabric must
be included in each quilt. Any other fabrics could be added and
there were no size limitations.. |

Stairway to Glory
Teresa Smallwood |
Each block
is this quilt was created with a story behind it.
The beginning block is Hills and Valley's, since that would be where I was raised, in the mountains of Rabun County, Georgia. Then I moved South to Commerce, Georgia and built a new home. In front of this home we have fields and pasture land. Along with chicken houses and lots of cows.
The blue at the bottom represents the creek that flows on the back side of our property, with the medium blue imitating the mill that used to be located there. The log cabin square kinda feels like going down the hill and back up. This is how you get to the creek. In the center a tree is located, I would hope that this reminds everyone of their Family Tree or the Tree of Life.
Then there's the bear claw……you know that there is a rumor going around that there is a bear running through the woods after dark!
Then comes the Jacob's ladder blocks. This would be my Stairway to Glory. But you see the block just as you start up? Well this one is extra special, just before the passing of my Momma she told me to slow down and smell the roses. This block is called the Rosebud.
When you get to the top you will see 3 stars…..these are in memory of my Momma and both Grandma's.
You will notice that there is no sashing on the side of the stars-well that is so the Glory of the Lord can shine all around us.
I really had a great time making this quilt and though it will never mean anything to anyone except me, it turned out just like I wanted it to.
Isaiah 40~31
"Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not become weary."
